Lawsuits for Civil Rights Violations

Our civil rights are personal rights that are guaranteed and protected by the United States Constitution, and federal laws. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 prohibits discrimination in public places and in employment. While these sacred rights should be valued and protected, there are times in which either the government, including law enforcement, or an employer perpetrate civil rights violations.

TYPES OF CIVIL RIGHTS VIOLATIONS

  • Discriminatory practices for employment, housing, education and public accommodation are examples of civil rights violations. If you have been discriminated against because of your race, color, religion, gender, or national origin, you may have cause for a civil rights lawsuit.
  • In addition, civil rights violations can happen at the hands of law enforcement when police use excessive force, illegally search or seize property, violate Miranda rights or ignore a suspect’s right to an attorney.
  • Workplace sexual harassment can be considered a civil rights violation under the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Because of this, victims may be able to a civil lawsuit against the harasser.

If you have experienced one of these situations, contact the Valle, O’Cleireachain, Zamora & Harris Law Firm. We will fight for your civil rights.
